On the South West coast of South Uist I meet up with Flanna, a Marine Mammal Biologist, colleague of Augo’s (my friend from Greenland) and a Hearach, or ‘person from Harris.’

She is here to carry out a shore based binocular survey to help estimate dolphin populations in the Hebrides and I am helping her collect the data. We are looking for pods of bottlenosed dolphin, a group of which inhabits the Sound of Barra. She wears a beautiful hand knitted Eriskay Jersey.
